Two lawmakers today expressed strong resentment over alleged nepotism of Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan in recruiting employees for Chittagong Sea Port.

Ruling alliance MP Mayeen Uddin Khan Badal and Opposition Lawmaker Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu separately raised the issue while speaking on point of order.

“Chittagong Sea Port recently recruited 92 staffs. Only two of them are from Chittagong and the rest are from a particular district. It cannot be acceptable,” Badal, also a Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal MP, said.

“The people would not mind if those staffs were recruited from different districts. People of Chittagong are aggrieved the way recruitment process was completed. Big problem might be created centering the issue,” he also said.

Later speaking on a point of order, Opposition Jatiya Party MP Bablu said it is very unfortunate that people of Chittagong didn’t get job although the Sea Port is in Chittagong.

“How can it happen that only two of the total 92 recruited staffs were from Chittagong? We demand to ensure recruitment according to merit,” Bablu also said.

Bablu also said Chittagong people have started agitation.  Big problem might arise if the government does not resolve the issue immediately.
