1 held with foreign currencies at Dhaka airport

Customs intelligence today arrested a man along with foreign currencies worth over Tk 1 crore at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

Tipped off, a team of customs intelligence detained one Mamun Miah, 41, hailing from Munshiganj, when he was about to board a Malaysia-bound flight around 2:00am.

The authorities found Saudi Riyal, UAE Dirham, Malaysian Ringgit, Thai Baht, Indian Rupee and Sri Lankan Rupee worth Tk 1.2 crore from Mamun, Moinul Khan, director general for customs intelligence, told The Daily Star.

The arrestee was carrying the currencies to buy smuggled goods of Malaysia, the customs official said.
