Bangladesh to import potash from Canada

Bangladesh will import high quality potash fertiliser worth US$44 million from Canada.

Canadian Commercial Corporation, Canadian government's government-to-government contracting organisation, signed the contract with Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation this month.

The high quality Canadian potash will be mined from member mines of Canpotex Limited, a joint venture among Potash Producers in Saskatchewan of the North American country, said a press release of the Canadian high commission.

The contract includes an option to supply an additional US$22 million worth of potash. The new agreement builds on last year's US$40 million contract to supply potash to BADC, which was signed and delivered in 2014.

Canada resumed potash export to Bangladesh by a government-to-government contract in 2014 after many years.

Canada is one of the world's largest producers of potash, with about 33 percent of global potash fertiliser production occurring in Saskatchewan.
