Govt to set up 7 new missions, 17 others given go

The cabinet today approved seven new diplomatic missions in Afghanistan, Australia, Canada, India, Romania, Sudan and Sierra Leone.

These new missions will be at Kabul, Khartoum, Freetown, Bucharest, Chennai, Sydney and Toronto, Cabinet Secretary M Safiul Alam told reporters after a cabinet meeting headed by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Secretariat.

The cabinet also gave retrospective effectiveness to 17 Bangladesh mission abroad.

These missions are situated in Athens, Milan, Mumbai, Istanbul, Lisbon, Kunming, Beirut, Mexico City, Brasilia, Port Luis, Copenhagen, Warsaw, Vienna, Addis Ababa, Abuja, Algiers and Guwahati.

These missions are already operational and have been working effectively in those places, the secretary said.

Besides, the cabinet approved the draft of Nazrul Institute Act 2017. It also approved a proposal titled Framework Agreement on Facilitation of Cross Border Paperless Trade in Asia and the Pacific.
