Over 100 shanties gutted in Chattogram slum fire

Over 100 shanties were gutted as a fire ripped through a slum in Chattogram city's Fishery Ghat area this morning.

No casualties were reported in the fire that originated at Bhera Market slum around 9:30am, our Chattogram staff correspondent reports quoting, deputy assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defence Jahsim Uddin.

On information, five firefighting units rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after over three hours of frantic efforts, the fire service official said.

The reason and extent of damage could not be ascertained immediately, he said.

Notably, nine people, including three children, were killed and many others injured as a fire broke out at the same slum on February 16.
