Bangabandhu's aide Abdur Rahim dies

M Abdur Rahim, one of the close associates of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, a Liberation War organiser and western zone chairman of the then Mujibnagar government passed away at the capital's Birdem Hospital yesterday. The former lawmaker was 89.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid rich tributes to him by placing wreaths on his coffin at the south plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban yesterday, reports BSS.

Speaker of the Parliament Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, deputy parliament leader  Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, Finance Minister AMA Muhith and Law Minister Anisul Huq expressed deep shock at his death.

Abdur Rahim breathed his last around 11:00am, confirmed his younger son Iqbalur Rahim, a lawmaker from Dinajpur-3 and whip of the Jatiya Sangsad.

He left behind his wife, two sons and four daughters.

Born on November 21, 1927 in Dinajpur, Abdur Rahim played a crucial role whenever the country faced crisis. He was elected a member of the then provincial government formed in 1970.

He was also a member of the constitution formulation committee and the vice president of Awami League when Bangabandhu was its president.
