Probe did not find any major fault of the policemen at Banani police in connection to recording case of the twin rape incident, Dhaka’s police chief said today.

“However, we found some minor deviances in discharging duties,” Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia told reporters at his office.

The two university girls, who came forward with allegations of rape, had complained of dilly-dallying of the officials of Banani Police Station in recording a case complaint.

There have also been accusations that police helped the rape accused destroy any evidence of the incident that took place in The Raintree hotel in Dhaka on March 28.

In face of such compelling accusations, police had formed a probe committee to investigate into the complaints. DMP chief Asaduzzaman Mia said he had received its report.

As explanation to the delay in filing the report, the DMP commissioner said that “such delay was needed for a proper and thorough investigation”.

Urging all to put faith on police, Asaduzzaman Mia said they would “surely put a quick disposal” to the case and that anybody guilty would not go unpunished.
