Banani rape accused sighted in Sylhet?

The accused of the Banani rape case of two university girls might have been sighted in Sylhet area, a local hotel owner said today.

“Five youths came to me for renting a room at my hotel around 2:00pm on Monday. One of them resembles Shafat, an accused of the rape case,” Helal Uddin Ahmed, owner of Regent Park Resort in Sylhet, told The Daily Star.

Helal said, “I refused them any room at my hotel as they refused to submit their ids.”

While talking to The Daily Star about progress of the arrest, Rafiqul Islam, assistant commission of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Gulshan zone), said several teams of the law enforcement agencies are carrying out massive search across the country to nab the accused.

Earlier in the day, police raided the residence of Ahmed Shafat, an accused in a case filed over raping two university girls in Banani, but did not find him.

The law enforcers also searched for Shafat’s passport but did not find it.
