Nasim assures agitating health workers of meeting their demands
Government health workers, who carried out a countrywide strike demanding an increase in salary and other facilities, have decided to join work, as heath minister yesterday assured them of meeting their demands.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammed Nasim also formed a committee, headed by the ministry's Health Services Division Secretary Serajul Huq Khan, in this regard, said a press release.
The minister took the decisions during a meeting with representatives of the health workers and the ministry officials at the secretariat in the capital yesterday.
Earlier, on Monday, the health workers in different upazilas across the country started work abstention demanding that the government increase their salary, introduce risk allowance, and recruit more health workers.
As a consequence of the strike, health services, especially immunisation programmes, remained halted.
Mohammed Nasim, at the meeting, said the health workers have a significant contribution to the country's immunisation programmes.
Therefore, necessary measures will be taken to meet their logical demands, he said.
The minister also directed the concerned bodies of the ministry to make the training activities of the health workers faster.
Prof Abul Kalam Azad, director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS); and Rezwan Ahmed Toufiq, adviser of Bangladesh Health Assistants Association; among others, were present.
