A Dhaka court today granted remand against three people including owner of Ba-Dwip Prakashan on different terms for publishing and selling a book that allegedly hurt religious sentiments.

Ba-Dwip Prakashan owner Shamsuzzoha Manik was remanded for five days, while his brother Shamsul Alam, who takes care of the stall, for a day and Fakir Taslimuddin, owner of Shobdokoli Printers, for two days.

Metropolitan Magistrate Amirul Haider Chowdhury passed the order after Inspector (Investigation) Zafarullah Biswas of Shahbagh Police Station produced them before the court seeking a seven day-remand against each.

The three were arrested last night after authorities of Amar Ekushey Granthamela shut down a book stall for selling a book that allegedly hurt religious sentiments, said Maruf Hossain Sorder, deputy commissioner (Media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

Cops in a raid arrested Fakir from Katabon, Manik from Mirpur and Shamsul from Shahbagh in the capital.

Masud Rana, a sub-inspector of Shahbagh Police Station, filed a case under section 57(2) of the Information and Communication Technology act soon after the Book Fair authorities shut the stall.
