Attacker cuts off elederly woman's foot

The left foot of an elderly woman was cut off by an unidentified person in Amargichia Kalibari village in Bagerhat on Friday.

While Hosney Ara was walking in front of her house around 6:00pm, a person came and asked for her identity, said Kabirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sharonkhola Police Station yesterday.

As soon as the 70-year-old had given her identity to the unknown man, he started hacking her in the leg and left the spot, the OC quoted locals as saying.

Hearing her screams, locals rushed in and took her to Sharonkhola Upazila Health Complex. Later, she was sent to Dhaka for better treatment.

Police immediately could not say who attacked the woman and why.

Hosney Ara used to live with her husband Nurul Islam Mia and a domestic help in the village. Her son Mostofa Kamal, a retired army officer and an RMG factory owner, lives in Dhaka, said locals.

No case was filed till yesterday, said the OC.
