Army man, 4 others killed in road accidents

3 Cops, 8 others injured

At least five persons, including an army man were killed in separate road accidents across the country yesterday.

Jakir Hossain, 22, a soldier of 36 artillery core under Shimultali Cantonment of Bangladesh army and three of his friends were critically injured when a motor van knocked over their bikes in Rajibpur upazila of Kurigram, police said.

The injured were taken to Rajibpur upazila health complex where the doctors declared Jakir dead, police added.

In Faridpur, Nipan Sorker, 28, was killed when a bus ran over two bicycles on the Dhaka-Khulna Highway in Faridpur Sadar upazila, our local correspondent reports.

Two injured were taken to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for treatment.

Also in Mymensingh, truck driver Solaiman, 22 died when his truck collided head-on with another truck in Nandail upazila, witnesses said.

The injured were treated at the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH), police said quoting locals. 

In Bogra, college student Umme Habiba, 19, was killed when a brick loaded truck hit and ran over the motorbike she was riding in Dupchanchia upazila, reports our local correspondent.

She was a student of Dupchanchia Girl's College in the same upazila.

Meanwhile in Dhaka, Solaiman Hossin Mojnu, 32, was hurt after a bus hit his bicycle at Rampura, reports our correspondent.

The injured was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where doctors declared him dead, police said.

In another incident, three policemen were injured after a bus hit them in Jatrabari area while visiting an accident scene. They have also been admitted to DMCH, police added.
