The anti-militancy fight of Bangladesh government is a battle to protect religion, democracy and the society, Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu said today.

Referring to the recent terror incidents, the minister said the country is now in a “grave situation” and the path of the government is that of “righteousness”.

“Our (government) only aim is to curb militancy,” he said, denouncing that it had anything to do with subduing the opposition political parties.

The minister was speaking at a view exchange programme arranged in Dhaka this morning. Among others, Dhaka police’s commissioner was also present there.

Mentioning the trail of incidents since 2009 – after the Awami League-led coalition assumed power and returned for a successive term – Inu said they all were “linked”.

“Now, the situation of our country is grave. Everyone must choose a side. Our government’s side is that of righteousness – to protect religion, democracy and society,” he added.

The programme is part of the government’s campaign against militancy and terrorism in the backdrop of two terrorist attacks in July and a successful anti-militant drive of yesterday.
