Anjuman buries seven bodies found in Mirpur militant den

The bodies of seven people including two children, who were allegedly killed in an explosion during an anti-militancy raid at a suspected militant hideout in Mirpur on September 5, were buried as unclaimed bodies at the Jurain graveyard in the capital yesterday.

At the request of police, Anjuman-e-Mafidul Islam, a voluntary organisation, collected the bodies from Dhaka Medical College (DMC) morgue around 12:45pm and buried them at 2:00pm, Nur Amin, duty officer of Anjuman Mofidul Islam, confirmed it to The Daily Star.

“No one contacted us or claimed the bodies. So, we requested the charity organisation to bury them,” said Selim-uz-Zaman, officer-in-charge of Darussalam Police Station.

According to Rapid Action Battalion, one of the key militant suspects, later identified as Mir Akrabul Karim alias Upal alias Abdullah, 43, holed up there, caused the explosions, killing himself, his two wives and two children and possibly two of his employees.

Abdullah's two wives were identified as Nasrin, 35, and Fatema, 25, and sons as Osama bin Akrabul, 10, and two-and-a-half-year-old Omar bin Akrabul. However, the identities of his two associates could not be found.

Rab conducted the 88-hour raid, which ended with the haul of some powerful bombs, explosives, explosive-making materials and some sharp weapons.

Meanwhile, Rab Director General (DG) Benazir Ahmed yesterday donated Tk one lakh to Dalil Uddin, who used to live on the third floor of the building as tenant, according to a press statement.

The flat of Dalil, 75, was badly affected by the explosion. The elite force donated the money on humanitarian grounds, said Roysul Azam, deputy director of legal and media wing of Rab Headquarters.
