AL to accept president's decision on EC: Quader

Awami League (AL) General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader at a programme in Sunamganj yesterday said his party would accept any decision the president makes as per constitution to form the Election Commission (EC).

He said this at the inaugural ceremony of the construction of a bridge over the Kushiara River in Raniganj area of Jagannathpur upazila.

The BNP has become a party full of complaints, the minister said, adding that they (BNP) used to complain to the foreign countries about the ruling government, not taking into consideration the latter's development work.

Quader asked his party men to take preparation for the next national election. An AL delegation led by party chief and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on January 11 placed 11-point proposal to President Abdul Hamid during talks, initiated by the president for the formation of the new EC.

The tenure of the current EC expires this month. Regarding AL, he said, “The country is now full of leaders; we need more activists than leaders to run the party.”

State Minister for Finance and Planning, also local lawmaker, MA Mannan; lawmaker Moazzem Hossain Ratan, and Samsunnahar Begum Sahana was present.

The bridge project involving Tk 126crore will connect Pagla-Jagannathpur-Aushkandi road.
