Police recovered an Ak-22 rifle and ammunition from the residence of a former activist of Islami Chhatra Shibir in Chattogram city today, a day after his arrest in Dhaka.

Immigration police arrested Sarwar alias Babla from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Saturday and he was later taken to Chattogram, said Parittran Talukdar, assistant commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan Police.

“Later, based on his information, police conducted a drive in his residence in Khandakia Para area of Bayezid Bostami and seized 30 rounds of bullets, an AK-22 and a light gun along with its four cartridges,” our Chattogram correspondent reports quoting the police official.

Babla and two other “Shibir cadres” were arrested with five firearms including an AK-47 rifle in the port city on July 6, 2011, he said.
