Ahsanullah's Teachers' Manual still relevant
Discussion told on his 142nd birthday
The “Teachers' Manual” written and published by Khanbahadur Ahsanullah a century ago is universal and necessary for improving professional skills of teachers, said speakers at a discussion yesterday.
The discussion was organised by Nalta Central Ahsania Mission Extended Activities Dhaka at its office in the capital marking the social reformer's 142nd birth anniversary.
“Although Ahsanullah's manual is not known to many people, school teachers, especially the ones at secondary schools, need to study it,” said Prof Abdul Maleq of Dhaka University, adding that the book should be circulated widely.
Ahsanullah, who started his career as a teacher and later became an assistant director of the education department of undivided India, had a thorough understanding and experience of the education sector. “As he (Ahsanullah) knew about the weaknesses in the system, he wrote about ways to overcome them,” Prof Maleq added.

Former vice president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry Jasim Uddin, President of Central Ahsania Mission Md Selimullah, President of Dhaka Ahsania Mohila Mission Nurunnahar, Adviser to Ahsania Mission orphanages Faizunnahar Karim Madina and General Secretary of Bangladesh Mahila Samity Tania Bakht also spoke.
