HC orders prison authorities
The High Court yesterday asked the prison authorities to admit BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University immediately for his treatment.
The order came after Fakhrul's wife Rahat Ara Begum filed a writ petition saying that her husband had been suffering from various diseases including diabetes and heart complications.
She sought court direction upon the prison authorities for admitting Fakhrul to BSMMU or Birdem hospital.
Fakhrul's lawyer Sagir Hossain Leon told The Daily Star that his client was detained from Jatiya Press Club on January 5 and shown arrested in seven vandalism and arson cases.
Among the cases, Fakhrul got bail in one, he said, adding that the BNP leader has been in Gazipur's Kashimpur Jail-2.
