ACC arrests sub-registrar, deed writer with bribe

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in a drive yesterday at Atghoria upazila land registration office arrested an official with Tk 14 thousand bribe, and another with Tk 50 thousand bribe. 

The arrestees are sub-registrar Ishrat Jahan and deed writer Ashraful Alam respectively. 

Abu Bakar Siddique, deputy director of ACC in Pabna, said they arrested Ishrat with specific allegation of receiving Tk 14,000 from a client who filed a complaint with the ACC, mentioning serial numbers of the bank notes that had been handed over to her as bribe. The bank notes recovered from her possession matched the serial numbers provided by the complainant.

During the drive, the ACC team also detained Ashraful and seized Tk 50,000 from his possession after service seekers at the office complained about him being an intermediary in bribery.      

The ACC will file cases against the two accused following completion of investigation, Abu Bakar added.
