ACC arrests Padma Oil former MD

Anti-Corruption Commission yesterday arrested Padma Oil Company Ltd former managing director in Dhaka in two cases filed over misappropriating more than Tk 3 crore.

An ACC team, led by its Assistant Director Sirajul Haque, held Abul Khair at his Gulshan residence, ACC Public Relations Officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told The Daily Star.

One of the cases was filed for embezzling Tk 2.75 crore from a project to install the hydrant line, an aviation fueling system, at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in 1995-96 fiscal, said Sirajul.

Two other accused in the case are Fahim Zaman Pathan, managing director of a construction firm -- Max Oil & Engineering Works Ltd; and Ali Hossain, official project director of Padma Oil.

Another case was filed against five people including Khair for misappropriating around Tk 33 lakh during construction of a three-storey office of Padma Oil at Doulatpur in Khulna city in 1996, added Sirajul.

Four other accused are Nurul Amin, Padma Oil project director; Saleki Ahmed Inul Abbasi and KM Abdur Rahim, its officials; and Anisur Rahaman, managing director of construction firm -- Md Yunus & Company.
