American alumni assoc awards announced

American Alumni Association (AAA) has announced the AAAwards 2017, a biennial award programme to honour outstanding American graduates who have made significant contributions in various areas.

AAA is an association of graduates of American colleges and universities who are residing in Bangladesh and are currently contributing to the development of the country.

Recipient of the fifth AAAwards are Niaz Murshed (for contributions in arts, culture, or sports), Niaz Zaman (education), Abdul Awal Mintoo (business), Dr Mohammed Farashuddin (public service), Mridul Chowdhury (science and technology), and Shamsul Bari (social services).

For the first time AAA Life Time Achievement Awards were given this year. The awardees are Dr Mashiur Rahman, economic affairs adviser to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and her Energy, Power and Mineral Resources Adviser Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, Bir Bikram, said a press release.

Prof Dr Jamilur Reza Choudhury, Rokia Rahman, former ambassador Farooq Sobhan, and Sara Zaker were the jurors.

The announcement was made at a gala dinner at Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel in the capital on Friday which was attended by Dr Gowher Rizvi, Dr Mashiur Rahman, and President Syed Almas Kabir and Secretary Imtiaj Rasul of AAA among others.
