Journalists have threatened to stage a sit-in in front of Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka on August 20 unless their demands including the formation of the ninth wage board are met within the period.

They will stage the sit-in at 11:00 am on August 20 covering mouth with black clothe and also block the road in front of the press club for one hour, said Dhaka Union of Journalists President Shaban Mahmud during an agitation programme in front of the press club today.

Around 12noon, Journalists under the banner of DUJ blocked one side of the road in front of the press club demanding the fresh wage board and withdrawal of the finance minister’s comment on the wage board.

They also sought Finance Minister AMA Muhith’s apology for the comment.

The finance minister on August 8 said the salaries and allowances given in five categories in the newspaper industry were higher than that of the government employees.

He also said except for 15 to 20 newspapers, all the other dailies published from Dhaka were “bogus”.
