94 BNP men get bail in two cases

The High Court yesterday granted anticipatory bail to 94 BNP leaders and activists for six weeks in two violence cases.

The accused BNP leaders include its assistant international affairs secretary Nazrul Islam Azad and assistant mass education affairs secretary Anisur Rahman Talukder Khokon.

The HC bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice Amir Hossain passed the bail order.

Their lawyer, Sagir Hossain Leon, told The Daily Star that police filed a case with Araihazar Police Station in Narayanganj against 87 BNP leaders and activists including Azad over clashing with police and preventing them from discharging their duties during a party programme.

Among the accused, 86 got bail from the HC, he said.

The other case was filed with Kalkini Police Station in Madaripur against 10 BNP leaders and activists including Khokon over beating local Awami League men. Among the 10 accused, eight were granted bail, he added.

Advocate Zainul Abedin argued for the accused petitioners.
