8 teens held for murdering boy in Dhaka

Police today claimed to have arrested eight teenage boys in connection with murder of a 16-year-old boy in Dhaka’s Lalbagh area on Thursday.

Most of the arrestees are aged under 17 years, KM Ashraf Uddin, officer-in-charge of Lalbagh Police Station, told The Daily Star.

According to the case filed over the murder, victim Rony Hasan met some of his friends on Atosh Khana Lane around 9:00pm on August 31 and locked into an altercation with them over arranging a programme on the occasion of Holy Ashura to be observed on September 10, he said.

As a sequel of the altercation, Rony’s friends started kicking and punching him and at one stage, one of them stabbed Rony in his chest, leaving him critically injured, the police official said.

On information, police rescued Rony and sent him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where attending doctor declared him dead later in the day, he added.

The victim’s father filed a murder case with Lalbagh Police Station on September 1 in connection with the murder.

Police first arrested the prime accused from Lalbagh area today. Later, the law enforcers arrested the rest of the accused in Keraniganj, Savar, Dohar and Munsiganj areas following information provided by the prime accused.
