7kg of gold bars recovered from Dhaka airport

Customs officials recovered 60 gold bars, weighing around seven kilogrammes, from the toilet of a Regent Airways flight at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital yesterday.

The gold bars, worth about Tk 3.5 crore, were recovered from flight RX 724 that came from Muscat, HM Ahsanul Kabir, assistant commissioner of Customs, told The Daily Star.

On information that gold was being smuggled on the flight, customs officials conducted the search, he said.

The official suspected that the smuggler abandoned the gold in the aircraft sensing the presence of customs officials.
