63rd death anniversary of Jibanananda observed

The 63rd death anniversary of Poet Jibanananda Das was observed at his ancestral city Barisal yesterday.

On the occasion, leaders and activists of Jatiya Kabita Parishad, Barisal branch, placed wreaths at his portrait in Poet Jibanananda Memorial Hall built on Kabi Jibanananda Das Sarak in the city. A discussion was also held there.

Participants in the programme demanded implementation of the Dhanshiri River Eco Park project and excavation of Dhanshiri and also setting up of a museum, memorials and sculptures of the poet in places connected with his life and works. They also called for more study and research on his life and achievements.

Dr Mostak Al Mehedi, poet Mukul Das, Kazi Selina, Apurba Goutam, Suvash Chandra Das, and Partha Sarathi attended the programme.

Born on February 17, 1899 in Barisal town, Jibanananda Das died in a road accident on October 22, 1954 in Kolkata.
