5kg gold seized at Dhaka airport, 1 held

Customs officials have arrested a man along with 42 gold bars, weighing around five kilogrammes, from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

The gold bars were found after searching the body of Jahirul Islam arrested last night, HM Ahsanul Kabir, assistant commissioner of Customs, told The Daily Star today.

Later, the officials arrested Jahirul, who reached Dhaka from Dubai by an Emirates Airways flight around 11:00pm, he said.

The price of the gold bars is estimated at Tk 2.4 crore, he said.
