5 killed in road accidents

At least five persons were killed and 24 others injured in road accidents across the country yesterday.

In Comilla, Chhatra Dal activist Jewel Prodhan, 20, was killed and 11 others injured when a bus of Shyamoli Paribahan hit the motorcade of former minister and BNP leader Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain in Daudkandi upazila on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway, reports our correspondent.

Three of the injured were taken to a local hospital while eight others with critical injuries have been transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

The BNP leader is safe and visited Gouripur Health Complex to meet the injured party men.

In Madaripur, bus driver Rabiul Islam, 35, was killed on the spot when he lost control over the vehicle and hit a roadside tree on Dhaka-Barisal highway, reports our correspondent.

The incident injured 10 others, who were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

In Natore, motorcyclist Abdur Razzak, 27, was killed after his motorbike collided with a rickshaw causing him serious injuries in sadar upazila, UNB reports. 

He was taken to a local hospital where the duty doctor declared him dead, said police.

Meanwhile in Sylhet, motorcyclists Nurul Islam, 26, and Sabuj Ahmed, 20, were killed as their motorbike plunged into a roadside ditch on Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Nabiganj upazila, police said.

On information, police recovered the bodies and sent those to local hospital morgue.
