Five of a family including three children suffered burn injuries in Shampur area of Dhaka in an explosion caused by “gas line leak” early today.

The victims are: Md Enayet, 40, his wife Mariam Begum, 37, and their three children -- Anny, 5, Habiba, 3, and Jubayer, 2.

They are undergoing treatment at the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, Officer-in-Charge of Kadamtali Police Station Abdul Jalil told The Daily Star.

When contacted, Farhaduzzaman, inspector of Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters, said, the fire might have originated from an explosion in the gas line.

The incident took place at the ground floor of a five-storey building at Shampur around 3:00am.
