5 diagnostic centres, hospitals fined

A mobile court of Rapid Action Battalion-3 (RAB) in a drive yesterday fined five different hospitals and diagnostic centres in the capital Tk 21 lakh on various charges, and shut down two.

Executive Magistrate Sarwoer Alam said they slapped the penalties during a drive on the private hospital's laboratories and pharmacies.

The businesses that were fined various amounts are -- Islami Bank Central Hospital, Ifty Diagnostic Center, Royal Diagnostic Center, Rajdhani Diagnostic Center and Islami Bank Speciliazed Hospital. Of them, Ifty and Royal diagnostic centres were closed down for providing medical reports without conducting tests, Sarwoer Alam told The Daily Star.

“A mobile court of Rab has fined Tk 21 lakh to five different hospitals and diagnostic centres in Paltan area for keeping a huge volume of expired reagents in the laboratory, expired medicines in the operation theatre, and for giving report without conducting tests,” Major Abdullah Al Mehedi, deputy director of Rab, told The Daily Star.

Representatives of the Directorate General of Drug Administration or DGDA and Directorate General of Health Services were also present during the drive.
