48 gold bars seized at Ctg airport

Customs officials recovered 48 gold bars, weighing around 4.5kg and worth Tk 2.5 crore, at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong yesterday.

On a tip off, customs officials first checked a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight, from Jeddah, and recovered 38 gold bars from under a seat. Simultaneously, revenue officials ran a check on new Dhaka-bound passengers who boarded the same flight during the stopover and recovered 10 gold bars from one Joynal Abedin, 40, of Satkania upazila. Joynal was arrested.
