Possessing Grenades

4 JMB men jailed

A Dhaka court yesterday sentenced four militants of banned outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) to 12 years' rigorous imprisonment in a case filed for possessing grenades and explosives in August 2007.

The convicts are: Isahak Sheikh, Anach Ali, Md Rafiqul Islam and Khalil Mia.

Judge Nityananda Sarkar of the Special Tribunal-7 of Dhaka handed down the verdict. 

According to the prosecution, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) raided a house in Pallabi on August 2, 2007, and arrested the four along with  grenades and bomb-making materials.

Sub-inspector Khandaker Mizanur Rahman of Rab-11, filed the case against them with Pallabi Police Station under the explosives substances act.

After an investigation, police pressed charges against the four on August 28 the same year and the court framed charges against them on November 22.
