4 injured as BCL factions clash in Rajshahi

At least four Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) men were injured as two groups locked into a clash over establishing supremacy at Rajshahi's Nawdapara area on Tuesday.

The injured are Zohurul Islam, former president of Shah Makhdum thana unit of BCL, and activists Zony, Parvez and Selim.

Zohurul, Zony and Selim were admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, while Parvez received first aid, police said.

Equipped with sharp weapons, the two groups clashed near Zia Park, said Zillur Rahman, OC of Shah Makhdum Police Station quoting locals.

They clashed over supremacy, he said, adding both the groups blamed each other for the incident.

Zohurul alleged that the clash ensued after Masud, former general sectary of the thana unit BCL swooped on him in a fit of rage for not getting invitation at the freshers' reception programme of Varendra College in the city.

However, denying his allegation, Masud on the other side alleged that Zohurul's men attempted to abduct him while he was on his way to the programme.

The witnesses said, both the groups were seen with sharp weapons when they were clashing with each other.

No cases were filed and nobody arrested till the filing of this report.
