4 ‘fraudsters’ arrested in Dhaka

Four fraudsters were arrested from different areas in Dhaka for allegedly deceiving people with fake documents, detectives claimed today.

The detainees are: Moslem Mia, 35, Shah Alam Kabir, 42, Ashikur Rahman, 23, and Md Abdur Rahim, 28.

They were held with more than 800 fake revenue stamps, 1,612 fake police clearance certificates, 617 fake seals of different ministries, non-government and police officials.

Two computers, one printer, and three punch machines were also seized from their possession, said Mir Mudasser Hossain, deputy commissioner (Serious Crime Investigation) of Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

On information, the detectives conducted a drive in Dhaka’s Dainik Bangla area and detained Moslem Mia, DB official Mudasser said while briefing reporters at DMP Media centre in the capital.

Later, according to the information provided by Moslem, three of his associates -- Shah Alam and Ashikur and Abdur Rahim -- were held in separate drives from Shanir Akhra and Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka.

The detainees confessed to their crimes in primary interrogation, Mudasser claimed.

A case was filed with Jatrabari Police Station in this connection.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident in Bagerhat, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) detained two men with fake Indian notes of 1.10 lakh rupee, Mulla Nazrul Islam, superintendent of police (crime unit) of CID, told The Daily Star.

The arrestees are: Kawsar Sharif Babu, 21, and Nasir Uddin Akon, 23.

A case has been filed in this connection with Bagerhat Police Station.
