4 cops suspended for ‘harassing’ Gazipur villagers

Four policemen including an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Kaliganj Police Station in Gazipur on March 27, 2017 are suspended on charge of extortion from Christian-inhabited Doripara village.

Four policemen including an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Kaliganj Police Station in Gazipur today were suspended on charge of extortion from Christian-inhabited Doripara village.

The suspended policemen are ASI Jamil Uddin Rashed, 30, constables Ziaur Rahman, 32, Najrul Islam, 58 and Md Monir Hosen, reports our Gazipur correspondent.

They were ordered to be sent to Gazipur Police Lines after suspension, our local correspondent reports quoting Alam Chad, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kaliganj Police Station.

Additional Police Super Pankaj Dutta said that the officials were suspended in connection with the clash that ensued between the police and the locals at Doripara village in Tumlia union on Friday, March 24, 2017.

It has been alleged that ASI Jamil Uddin Rashed along with the constables went to the Christian Palli of the village that night around 10:00 pm where the clash with the locals ensued injuring six policemen and nine villagers.
