4 Bangladeshi women return from Indian jail

Four Bangladeshi women returned home through Benapole check-post yesterday after serving two-and-a-half years in an Indian prison.

Indian Border Security Force (BSF) handed them over to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGG).

Benapole check-post BGB Camp Commander Abdul Wahab said the four Bangladeshi women had illegally entered Indian territory through Jessore border point without valid documents three years ago.

Later, Indian police arrested them from Kolkata city in West Bengal. A case was filed against them and an Indian court sentenced them to two-and-a-half years' imprisonment each for illegally crossing the border without valid documents.

The Indian government returned them following exchange of letters between the home ministries of the two countries.

Police said they handed the reurnees to their respective families.
