3 ‘robbers’ held after ‘gunfight’ at Jatrabari, 1 hurt

Three suspected robbers were arrested after an alleged gunfight with police in Dhaka’s Jatrabari area last night that left one of them injured.

Acting on a tip-off that a gang of robbers was preparing to commit robbery, a team of police went to the spot around 2:30am, Officer-in-Charge of Jatrabari Police Station Anisur Rahman told The Daily Star.

Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the robbers fired shots at the policemen triggering a “gunfight” that left one member of the robber gang injured, the official said.

The injured -- Majharul Islam Nayan, 26, -- was first taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital under police custody and was then referred to National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (Nitor).

Police detained two more “robbers” Rasel and Himu from the spot.
