3 mountaineers honoured for conquering Lhakpa Ri peak

Three Bangladeshi mountaineers were accorded a reception yesterday for conquering Lhakpa Ri, a 23,113-foot Himalayan peak in Tibet.

They are MA Mohit, the first Bangladeshi who conquered the Mount Everest twice; Bahlul Maznu, and Shayla Parvin.

On the occasion, Bangla Mountaineering and Trekking Club organised a press conference and a flag-in ceremony at Jatiya Press Club in the capital.

Speaking at the programme, Rasheda K Choudhury, executive director of Campaign for Popular Education (CAMPE), said the mountaineers brightened the image of Bangladesh through their successful conquest of the Himalayan peak.

Enam Ul Haque, a Bangladeshi adventurer, also spoke at the event.

The three-member team, led by Mohit, left Dhaka for Nepal on April 29 for the first Bangladeshi expedition to Lhakpa Ri peak. They conquered the peak on May 17 and returned home on May 25.
