26 SSC examinees killed in last 6 months: Report

At least 26 examinees of this year's Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination were killed in road and train accidents in last six months, Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity, a passengers' welfare platform said yesterday.

Of them, 24 were killed in road accidents, while one died after being crushed under a train and another drowned to death, the organisation said in its recent report.

The organisation prepared the report on the basis of media reports, Mozammel Haque Chowdhury, secretary general of Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity said.

He said multiple incidents of death of SSC examinees in road accidents prompted them to gather information since September last year. The investigations said most students were killed on their way to exam centers or schools, Mozammel said adding the platform has recommended ways to avoid incidents. The recommendations include— counseling students in every school about road safety; School's vehicle to transport students and impose ban on carrying students on motorcycle and easy bike.
