2 maunds of jatka seized; 2 fined, one of them jailed

A mobile court in Barisal fined two people and jailed one of them after two maunds of jatka (hilsa fry less than 10 inches in length) were seized from a launch yesterday.

Zahirul Islam, master of the launch, MV Pubali-1, was jailed for three months. Zahirul and supervisor of the launch Nizamuddin were fined Tk 5,000 and Tk 1.5 lakh respectively.

The district fisheries department in a drive seized the jatka from the launch on the Meghna River yesterday. Later, the jatka were distributed among orphanages.
