2 DB imposters caught red-handed while mugging

A mob beat two DB imposters and handed them over to police while they were fleeing after mugging a man in the capital's Azimpur area yesterday.

During interrogation, Jinnat Hossain, 46, and Nahid, 46, confessed to mugging people in the guise of detective branch of police personnel, said Lalbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge Subhash Kumar Pal.

Police and locals said a man, Jashimuddin, who came to Dhaka from Chittagong, hired a rickshaw to go to Mitford area from Fakirapool.

Instead of using the direct route, rickshaw-puller Jashim, 35, drove other ways and dropped Jashimuddin at Azimpur intersection, saying that his rickshaw seized up.

Jashimuddin started walking to the destination and Jinnat and Nahid waylaid him introducing themselves as DB men.

In the name of checking, they snatched Tk 16,000 from him, said Md Shafi, a vegetable trader, who said to have witnessed the incident.

The mob rushed to the spot when Jashimuddin cried for help.

The rickshaw-puller was also arrested in connection with the incident, said the OC.
