5 ‘militants’ arrested in Dhaka, Narayanganj

Law enforcers today claimed arrest of five members of banned outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) and Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) from Dhaka and Narayanganj.

They recovered huge explosives, sharp weapons and books on promoting religious extremism from their possession.

The arrestees are: Babu Howladar alias Hossain, Rashedur Rahman alias Suman, Shahidul Islam alias Shipan, Abbas Ali and Sabbir Hossain.

A team of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested three JMB men -- Babu, Suman and Shipan –from Jatrabari area in the capital, said Masudur Rahman, deputy commissioner (Media) of DMP told The Daily Star.

The law enforcers seized 10 kilogrammes of explosives and other bomb making materials from the possession of the JMB men during the drive.

Meanwhile, Rapid Action Battalion arrested ABT men -- Abbas and Sabbir -- from Chittagong Road in Siddhirganj upazila of Narayanganj last night, said a text message floated to the media.

Rab-11 seized books promoting religious extremism, leaflets, machete and knives from the possession of the detainees, it said.
