12 fraudsters jailed in capital

A mobile court of Rab yesterday convicted 12 fraudsters for luring patients to get admitted to a Mohammadpur hospital in Dhaka and robbing them through overcharging.

The court, led by Executive Magistrate Sarowar Alam, jailed them for two months to three years.

It raided New Welcare Hospital in the area and arrested eight people including its owner while they were drinking liquor in a hospital room, said a press release.

The other four were arrested in National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedic Rehabilitation (NITOR) area. One of the fraudsters, BR Ahmed Sharif, who had been giving treatment for two years claiming himself as an orthopedic specialist, admitted that he had no permission from Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council to write prescription, said Sarowar.
