10 killed in road accidents
At least 10 people including an agriculture officer were killed in road accidents across four districts yesterday.
In Chittagong, five persons were killed in three accidents.
The deceased are Nantu, 28, of Raozan upazila; Rafik, 22, of Fatikchhari upazila; Jashed, 30, and Ibrahim, 45, of Halishahar area of the city, and Hossain, 47, of Ukhia upazila in Cox's Bazar, said police.
Nantu, Rafik and Jashed were killed after a CNG-run auto-rickshaw carrying them was hit by a truck in Natunbazar area.
In Sitakunda, covered van driver Ibrahim died after being hit by a lorry while he was standing by the roadside in Bhatiari area.
In Chandanaish upazila, Hossain was killed as the bus he was riding hit a truck while trying to overtake it from behind.
In Manikganj, two people were killed and four others injured in three separate road accidents.
Assistant Plant Protection Officer of Singair Upazila Kuddusur Rahman died on the spot after an unidentified vehicle hit his motorcycle in Singair upazila.
Meanwhile, five-year-old Shoaib Hossain, son of Omar Faruk of Manikganj municipality, was killed as a battery-run auto-rickshaw hit him while he was crossing the road in the municipality area. He was a play group student in a local school.
In addition, four persons including a journalist were injured as a brick laden trolley hit them near Bewtha Bridge in Manikganj.
The injured are Rashedul Islam Khan, 55, Manikganj district correspondent of Alokito Protidin; Abdul Malek, 54, sub-assistant agriculture officer of Department of Agricultural Extension, and Abdul Hamid, 57, assistant professor of Khabashpur Adarsha Mohabidyalay. Trolley driver Mohammad Selim was also injured.
In Comilla, two people were killed in a two-truck collision in Chouddagram upazila.
The deceased were driver Nasir Uddin, 55, of Fatikchhari and helper Abdul Hamid, 25, Chokoria, said police.
In Pirojpur, a woman was killed after she was hit by a speeding motorcycle while crossing a road in Kumarkhali village of the sadar upazila.
The deceased is Sharmin Begum, 25, wife of Shohag Sheikh of the village.
