10 gold bars seized at Dhaka airport

Customs Intelligence yesterday arrested a passenger after recovering 10 gold bars, weighing 1.160kg, hidden inside his two mobile phone sets at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital.

Md Abu Taher alias Md Abdur Rahim, 43, reached Shahjalal Airport around 12:15pm from Chittagong by a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight.

On suspicion, the officials searched him and recovered the gold bars from two mobile phone sets, a Customs Intelligence press release said.

The flight came from Muscat via Chittagong and the Customs Intelligence believed that the gold bars, worth Tk 55 lakh, were handed over to him in mid-flight, it added.
