Smiles, Chaos, Worries

Awami League-backed mayoral candidate AJM Nasir Uddin was all smiles while casting his vote at Municipal Model High School and College. However, many voters in Chittagong City Corporation found little to be happy about. In that centre, supporters of Nasir were seen guarding the gate and barring voters from entering. Only those identified as their own men were cordially welcome. Around 11:00am, there was a long queue of voters outside Paschim Madarbari Government Primary School. But they had to wait as ruling party men were allegedly stuffing ballot boxes inside. At one stage, the centre ran out of ballot papers though many were yet to vote. A fierce clash broke out between AL and BNP men near Char Aktai High School polling centre. Inside, polling officials with boxes full of ballot papers were worried.
