A local leader of BNP’s student front Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) was killed and another person hacked and shot in separate incidents of Sonaimuri upazila in Noakhali during BNP-led 20-party alliance’s countrywide blockade.

The deceased was identified as Morshed Alam Parvez, 24, secretary of JCD ward no 3 in Sonaimuri union and son of Md Alamgir Hossain in the upazila.

Locals found his bullet-ridden body lying by the roadside in Hasanpur area around 11:45pm last night, quoting locals Ashraful Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sonaimuri Police Station, told our Noakhali correspondent.

“The body has been sent to Noakhali Abdul Malek Ukil Medical College Hospital for autopsy,” the OC said adding the motive of the killing was uncertain.

In a separate incident, unidentified assailants hacked one Abul Khar, 45, while he was having tea in Abirpara Bazar around 10:30pm last night, the police official said.

Locals rushed him to the in a critical state. When his condition deteriorated, doctors referred him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Two cases were filed in this regard with the Sonaimuri police, the OC said. 

Meanwhile, five people were burned when a Dhaka-bound vegetable-laden truck was set on fire at Mandari Bazar in Sadar upazila around 11:30pm, said Humayun Kabir, OC of Chandragonj Police Station.

The victims were identified as driver Md Dider 27, helper Md Sohel, 28, vegetable traders Zobaer, 30, Akter Hossain, 38, and Abul Bashar, 40.

Among them, Md Sohel was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a critical condition and the others were admitted into the Laxmipur Sadar Hospital.

In Chittagong, a group of 30 to 40 unidentified people set fire to two Dhaka-bound trucks and a covered van on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Fakirhat area of Sitakunda upazila around 9:30pm, Sub-Inspector (SI) Rehana Akter of Sitakunda Police Station told The Daily Star.

They also vandalised the two vehicles there, reports our Chittagong correspondent quoting the police official. None was injured in the incident.

On information, policemen and firefighters doused the blaze at around 11:30pm, the SI said.

In Feni town, a truck driver and his helper sustained burn injuries when some unidentified people hurled a petrol bomb at their vehicle on Dhaka-Chittagong in Bypass area around 9:00pm last night, said Ziaul Haque, a sub-inspector of Feni Model Police Station.

The victims are now out of danger, reports our Feni correspondent quoting the SI.

In Sirajganj, pro-blockade activists torched a truck on Dhaka-Sirajganj highway near Bangabandhu bridge in Kamarkhand upazila around 12:45am leaving its driver and a helper injured, said ATM Aminul Islam, officer-in-charge of Bangabandhu Bridge West Zone Police Station.

Truck driver Siddik Ali of Baneshwar in Rajshahi was admitted to a local hospital, reports our Pabna correspondent quoting the police official.
