Charges against Oishee accepted

A Dhaka court today took cognisance of charges against Oishee Rahman for killing her parents – police’s Special Branch inspector Mahfuzur Rahman and Swapna Rahman in August last year.

The court also accepted charges against three other accused-- domestic help Khadiza Akter Sumi, 11, and Oishee’s two friends Asaduzzaman Jony, 27, and Mizanur Rahman Roni, 25.

After scrutinizing the case dockets, Metropolitan Magistrate Maruf Hossain passed the order and sent the case dockets to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Bikash Kumar Saha for next course of action.

The bodies of Mahfuzur and his wife were recovered from their Chamelibagh residence in the capital on August 16 last year.

On March 9, Detective Branch (DB) Inspector Abul Khair Matubbar, the investigation officer of the murder case, submitted two charge sheets -- one against Oishee, Jony and Roni and another against Sumi -- before the CMM’s Court of Dhaka.

According to the charge sheets, Oishee alone killed her parents, Jony instigated the murders and Rony gave her shelter after the incident. Sumi has been accused of assisting Oishee in concealing the bodies.

A separate charge sheet against Sumi was submitted because she is now under 18 and so her trial will be held in a juvenile court.

Oishee, who had taken her O-level exams, turned herself in to Paltan police on August 17, a day after the bodies were recovered. She was later remanded.

While making a confessional statement before a magistrate on August 24 last year, she said she alone had killed her parents and Sumi helped her hide the bodies.

Sumi also confessed to helping Oishee.
