Charge framed against juvenile house help Sumi

Charge framed against juvenile house help Sumi

A juvenile court in Dhaka yesterday framed charge against domestic help Khadiza Akter Sumi for assisting Oishee Rahman, who killed her parents -- Special Branch of Police inspector Mahfuzur Rahman and Swapna Rahman in August last year.
However, the court granted bail to Sumi, 11, after her lawyer submitted a petition saying that Sumi had been in custody since August 18 last year.
In her order, Judge Zakia Pervin said Sumi would be handed over to her parents after they would appear before it on Monday and furnish bail bond in presence of the judge.
Sumi pledged not guilty and demanded justice after the charge brought against her was read out.
Another Dhaka court on May 6 framed charges against Oishee and her two friends--Asaduzzaman Johnny, 27, and Mizanur Rahman Roni, 25.
The bodies of Mahfuzur and his wife Swapna were found at their Chamelibagh residence in the capital on August 16 last year.
Oishee, who had taken her O-level exams, surrendered to Paltan police the following day. She was indicted in the murder case later.
In a confessional statement before a magistrate on August 24 last year, she said she alone had killed her parents and Sumi helped her hide the bodies. Sumi also admitted helping Oishee.
