Cabinet body okays import of 80,000 tonnes urea fertiliser

Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) approved three proposals paving the way for purchasing 80,000 tonnes of urea fertiliser at the cost of Tk 172.27 crore.

As per the approval, Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) will purchase 25,000 tonnes urea fertiliser from Muntajat of Qatar at Tk 55.85 crore; 25,000 tonnes Balk Granular Urea fertiliser from Saudi Basic Industries Corporation at Tk 55.58 crore, and 30,000 tonnes Bagged Granular Urea fertiliser from Kafco, Bangladesh at Tk 62.11 crore.

The approval came at the CGGP meeting chaired by Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal held at the cabinet division today.

While briefing reporters Additional Secretary of Cabinet Abu Saleh Mostafa Kamal informed about the approval of seven purchase proposals in the meeting.

Of them, three proposals were from the ministry of industries, two from Department of Road Transport and Highways, and one each from the energy and mineral resources, and water resources divisions, he said.

Kamal said that the total amount of the seven approved proposals was Tk 474.12 crore. Out of the total financing, Tk 287.59 crore will be spent from the government, and the remaining Tk 186.52 crore will be mobilised as loan from JICA and domestic banks.
